I’m Grateful


Sometimes it’s difficult to be grateful when everything seems to be falling down around you. When everything is against you, it can be difficult to find things that are going in your favour. But sometimes, if you change how you look at things, you find that you have more going for you than you think.

The other day, I was doing dishes and feeling sorry for myself. I was thinking about how all the dishes that I have (and I don’t have many) were in the sink waiting to be washed. I was lamenting that I couldn’t just have a meal, put the dishes in the sink and forget about washing them until the next day. I didn’t like the fact that I use all of my dishes at every meal.

Then I realized that I should be thankful for the fact that I was able to do dishes. I should be thankful for the fact that I have the health to walk around, the food to cook, and, most important, I have life.

It’s easy to take everything for granted. In the society that we live in, we are taught to always want more. We are taught that what we have is never enough and we start taking what we have for granted.

But it is time to start looking at our lives through the eyes of someone else. I like to think of my life as compared to a cave man. I don’t have to go hunting for food. I don’t have to worry about animals killing me. I have a good shelter that doesn’t leak and isn’t cold. I have a lot more than I notice on a day-to-day basis.

So, today, I am grateful. Today I promise that I will try to take less of my life for granted. Today I promise to see my life through the eyes of someone else.

Gratitude Saturday

Today I had the pleasure to find out about Gratitude Saturday. Now, I realize that by this time it’s actually Sunday but I thought that I would post anyway.

I’ve recently started a Gratefulness Journal. In it I have been writing one thing every day that I am grateful for. The difficult part is that I’m trying not to repeat anything. The first few days were quite easy but now I’m beginning to find it difficult.

I’ve had to be specific in what I’m grateful for. Rather than saying that I’m grateful for food, I need to specify what food I’m grateful for.  Instead of books, I’ll name the book or the author.

Some of the things I’ve been grateful for this past week have been:

  • Low gas prices
  • SCC
  • Degrassi
  • Fries
  • Good Parking at UAH
  • Red Deer having a hematologist
  • Having food in the fridge
